Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis Sparks Questions Over Timing and Transparency
A prominent oncologist who once worked with President Joe Biden has made waves by suggesting that Biden may have had prostate cancer long before it was publicly acknowledged — potentially even during his time in office.
The revelation comes after Biden’s team issued a statement on Sunday confirming that the 82-year-old former president has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones.
“Last week, President Joe Biden was evaluated after experiencing worsening urinary symptoms,” the statement read. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer — Gleason score 9 (Grade Group 5) — with metastasis to the bone. While aggressive, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.”
The diagnosis followed the discovery of a small nodule on Biden’s prostate. While messages of support have poured in from across the political spectrum, others are raising concerns about how such a serious illness could have gone unnoticed during the frequent health checks a sitting U.S. president undergoes.
Fueling the fire of speculation, former President Donald Trump initially offered support — but quickly pivoted to questioning the timeline. “I’m surprised the public wasn’t told sooner,” Trump said. “To get to stage nine — that’s a long time. Somebody isn’t telling the facts.”
He also took the opportunity to revive long-standing questions about Biden’s mental fitness. “It’s dangerous,” Trump said. “This isn’t just about politics anymore — this is about the safety of our country.”
But Trump isn’t the only one expressing skepticism.
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, a respected oncologist and former member of Biden’s transition team, stated on MSNBC’s Morning Joe that Biden’s cancer likely began years ago — even before he assumed the presidency in 2021.
“He’s had this for many years, maybe even a decade,” Emanuel said. “He did not develop it in the last few months. He had it while he was president. There’s very little doubt about that.”
Given that the cancer has already spread to his bones, several medical experts agree: the disease has been progressing for some time. One even called it “inconceivable” that it could have gone unnoticed for so long.
Dr. Emanuel also questioned whether Biden had undergone prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests in his earlier years. While some physicians advise against PSA screening after age 70, Biden — as vice president — would have had access to routine exams.
“It’s a little surprising if he didn’t have one,” Emanuel noted. “Or maybe he chose not to. A lot of men make that choice. But this is aggressive. A Gleason score of 9 indicates a very abnormal cancer — and that explains the bone metastasis.”
The diagnosis has reignited public debate over transparency in presidential health disclosures, especially during election years. Some conspiracy theories are circulating, claiming Biden’s team may have delayed the announcement to avoid damaging his 2024 campaign prospects — though no evidence has surfaced to support this.
As the nation processes the news, one thing is clear: Joe Biden is now facing a significant health battle, and questions about what was known — and when — are unlikely to fade anytime soon.
