George Clooney Slams Trump on ’60 Minutes’ – But the President Claps Back with Fierce Remarks
George Clooney didn’t hold back when he addressed President Trump during his appearance on 60 Minutes, but as expected, Trump fired back with sharp criticism of the actor, calling him a “second-rate movie ‘star’ and a failed politician pundit.”
In a candid conversation that aired Sunday, Clooney took aim at the growing government interference with journalism. His remarks seemed to ruffle Trump’s feathers, especially when Clooney warned about the dangers of suppressing the press.
Promoting his Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck—a project he originally wrote and directed in 2005—Clooney reflected on the power of the press in the face of governmental overreach. The play focuses on Edward R. Murrow, a journalist who courageously stood up to Senator Joseph McCarthy during the anti-communist Red Scare in the 1950s.
“When the other three estates fail—the judiciary, executive, and legislative branches—the fourth estate must rise to the challenge,” Clooney said, referring to the press as the “fourth estate.”
He continued, calling out the increasing attempts to silence the media. “ABC just settled a lawsuit with the Trump administration. CBS News is in the midst of one too,” Clooney pointed out. “Governments have always had a problem with the freedom of the press, no matter the political side. They don’t like it.”
In response, Trump took to Truth Social to hit back at Clooney, accusing him of abandoning President Biden after initially supporting him. Trump also criticized Clooney for backing Kamala Harris, only to later realize her candidacy wasn’t working out.
“Clooney supported Biden, then dumped him ‘like a dog,’” Trump wrote, referring to an op-ed Clooney penned in the New York Times urging Biden to step aside. “Later, under the Obama camp’s influence, he pushed all out for ‘Kamala,’ only to realize it was a losing bet.”
