If your dog is sniffing your genital area, here is what it means

Dogs greet each other by sniffing rear ends, which may feel awkward when they turn their attention to your crotch. This behavior is driven by their superior sense of smell, with 220 million scent receptors — 50 times more than humans.

Crotches are a hotspot due to apocrine sweat glands that produce a unique scent, making them an easy target for dogs.

To stop this behavior, avoid scolding your dog, as it may cause confusion. Instead, redirect their curiosity with activities like snuffle mats, puzzle toys, or nosework.

You can also teach your dog a polite greeting, like sitting or high-fiving, as an alternative to sniffing. Positive reinforcement is key to encouraging good behavior and making everyone feel comfortable.
